The B1/B2 visa is a combination of two non-immigrant visas for people who travel to the United States both for business (B1) as well as tourist, leisure or medical-treatment purposes (B2). This combined visa is ideal for travellers who wish to travel to the US for more than one purpose without having to apply for two visas.
Purpose and activities
Business Purposes (B1): The B1 visa is for business activities such as attending business meetings, conferences, seminars, contract negotiations, training, but also for technical support (repair/maintenance/installation). You are not allowed to be on a US payroll.
Tourism or Medical Treatment (B2): The B2 visa is for activities such as vacation (holiday), visits to friends or relatives, participation in social events hosted by social or service organizations. It also includes participation by amateurs in musical, sports or similar events or contests, if not being paid for participating. The B2 visa can also be used by people who travel to the US for medical treatment.
Term of validity
As with other B1 visas, the term of validity may differ. The validity varies between 1 and 10 years. In most cases a validity of 10 years is issued. Length of stay in the US is a maximum of 180 days per stay.
